Over the past year, Glenn spoke with writer, and fellow sailor Dieter Loibner on the wharf, on board West Wind II and over the phone about solo sailing, what it takes to leave the wharf, and how the adventure impacted our lives.
In this May, 2014 article in Soundings magazine, Dieter writes a very thoughtful and heartfelt piece titled Disappointed yes, but in no way defeated.
I constantly spent my half an hour to read this web site’s posts all the
time along with a cup of coffee.
Hi you two! I am really sorry we can’t make it to the dockside meet and greet. Glad you are moving forward so successfully. Any news on West Wind II? Has she graduated to a new family? Thanks for the link to the article. It is very thoughtful and true to the soul. I miss my daily updates on the voyage! I got to look forward so much to being with you, Glenn, if that doesn’t sound too presumptuous. Hope it doesn’t. You have shared your voyage with us on shore as no one else has done. I will always be grateful. Maybe it sounds weird, but I recalled my adventures learning to fly and spreading my wings, when I read about “Going Solo”. I know about ‘betting your all’, to a little degree, at least. Very best wishes.;
Knowing that this adventure conjured up good memories for you of learning to fly and spread your wings makes me very happy. Thanks for letting us know. Love the ‘betting your all’ term.
All the best, Alan.
