The CBC radio program ‘Ideas’ presents The Godforsaken Sea about sailing solo in the Southern Ocean. Glenn is one of four people interviewed along with Derek Hatfield, the first Canadian to race solo around the world twice, Dee Caffari, the first woman to race around the world solo in both directions and Derek Lundy,  the author of many books, including The Godforsaken Sea.

    Hi Glenn and Marylou,

An honest and gut wrenching interview which revealed much in a good way. I must admit I had a lump in my throat at the end. We are glad you are home safe with the love of your life.

  2. Hi Glenn, I got to listen to your interview, that you just posted a link to.
It was great inspiration, while painting my little boat. Thank you for your thoughts and wisdom.

  3. Thanks for the wonderful evening at the RVYC! It was great to meet you both! Thanks for being open and for being vulnerable – you both have touched us all.

This CBC program is incredibly good and gives some insight as to what it is like in the Southern Ocean. I think one of the important messages Glenn has for us is at the very end of the program, “It’s our planet, it sends us those challenges. Some are very subtle, some are quite right in your face. The Southern Ocean is right in your face. It has no conscience what so ever, and it will take you at any moment if you fail. So, I think if you look at our planet we may be facing very subtly the wrath of Mother Nature if we don’t get it together and look after it and see if for what it is. We may wake up one day and find that we are facing a wall here and we need to smarten up. It is no different than the Southern Ocean that we can face every day. Facing the planet or facing the earth, it is a very fragile precious place and if we are taking advantage of it, I’m pretty sure sooner or later we are gonna pay.”
